Free school screenings and workshops

From September 17 to 20, we are presenting the children’s and youth film festival THE FUTURE IS AFRICA in Berlin. The festival will showcase artistic film contributions from the African continent and the African diaspora, highlighting current social issues through the eyes of young filmmakers.

The festival is especially aimed at schoolchildren and young people: In addition to the regular film program at IL KINO Berlin-Neukölln, we offer free school screenings and workshops. Our goal is to introduce young audiences to cinematic and social perspectives that they can connect with their own life experiences. The films address topics such as social justice, environmental issues, protest movements, equality, and postcolonial structures, always from the perspective of a young generation engaging creatively and courageously with today’s challenges. Under the curatorial direction of Andrea Voges (e.g., Durban International Film Festival), students can expect a varied and inspiring program.

School screenings are free and can be booked for entire classes. Interested teachers can view the program and select their preferred film and time slot on September 18 or 19 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Whenever possible, discussions with the filmmakers will follow the screenings. Additionally, the festival offers workshops for students aged 12 and up, exploring topics such as film, activism, and creative empowerment.

Free registration and inquiries can be sent to Tatjana Arens (arens@festspielhaus-afrika.com).
