Healthy Meals for the schoolchildren at the Opera Village

The School at the Opera Village Africa is heading into Summer Break! We wish all our students strength, focus, and the very best of luck with their final exams! While summer holidays mark a time of rest and recovery for students here, everyday life remains a struggle for many children in Burkina Faso. Political instability, rising violence, the growing impact of climate change, and repeated crop failures have led to a dramatic shortage of food across large parts of the country. Many children are chronically malnourished – for them, the school meal at the Opera Village is often the only warm meal of the day.

Around 300 children attend our school each day. In addition to education, they receive fresh meals and access to clean drinking water – a privilege in a region where many schools have already been forced to close. Our dedicated head cook, Denise Compaoré, carefully prepares healthy, varied meals using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Generous portions even allow many children to take food home – a small but vital support for their families.

To continue running our school and meal program in the upcoming school year, we urgently need your support. Just €4 is enough to provide one child with healthy meals for an entire month. A donation of €50 funds around 150 meals – nearly half of our daily needs. Please help us secure education, nutrition, and hope for children in one of the world’s most challenging regions. Every contribution makes a real difference!
