June 26, 2026: Intercontinental Artistic Residencies – A Conversation on Transcontinental Collaboration in the Arts
Artistic residencies create spaces for encounter, exchange, and collaborative work across geographical and cultural boundaries. As part of the closing conference Bridging the Gaps. Connecting the Dots. of the Deconfining project, Annika Turkowski (Operndorf Afrika) will join a conversation on the potentials and challenges of intercontinental residency programmes.
The event builds on the experiences of the Deconfining project, which has fostered collaboration between artists and cultural practitioners from Europe and Africa over the past four years. The discussion will focus on questions of equitable and sustainable international cooperation, the conditions of artistic mobility, and the perspectives that emerge from long-term transcontinental working relationships.
Artists and cultural facilitators who have contributed to the project throughout its duration will share insights into their work, reflect on challenges and successes, and discuss how international artistic collaboration continues to evolve in response to social and political change.
The conversation features Elgas (online), Ana Lessing Menjibar (online), Lilian Hipolyte, and Annika Turkowski, and will be moderated by Antonia Blau.
The roundtable offers an opportunity to learn from current artistic practices and to reflect on the future of intercontinental residency programmes and cultural exchange.
