Since January 2010, building work has been underway on the opera village near Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. It includes a school with music and film classes, workshops, warehouses, a guesthouse, living spaces, a cafeteria, offices, a café, housing, a football pitch, agricultural land, a restaurant, a sick station, a theatre stage with a festival hall and rehearsal spaces. It is being experimentally developed like a snail shell, growing from the centre outwards, together with the local people on site and based on their necessities and their possibilities.

In the centre of western Africa, an environment of arts and continents is to be created, a research laboratory for overcoming the division between art and not-art, where above all young people from Burkina Faso can live out their joy at experimenting, and their curiosity, and use their own energy to do creative work.
We now have the opportunity to start a process without knowing how it will continue. And that is what is so wonderful about it! Here, you can learn more about the idea and the initiators of the project, the state of the development, the people and life in Burkina Faso and how you can support OPERNDORF AFRIKA! |
