Clinic partnership at the Opera Village
Thanks to the generous support of the GIZ-Förderprogramms „Klinikpartnerschaften“, we were able to successfully continue our collaboration with the Institut für Tropenmedizin der Charité (ITMIG) this year. The current training sessions focused on crucial areas such as obstetrics and infectious diseases—two key topics for enhancing healthcare in the region. A major objective was to improve the qualifications of midwives and nursing staff across all 69 health stations in the district. During the several weeks of training at Oper Village, over 150 midwives and health workers were further educated, leading to demonstrable and sustainable progress in reducing maternal and child mortality and combating diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis. These trainings have not only enhanced professional knowledge but also strengthened the confidence of healthcare workers in their roles. A particularly important aspect of our work is preventive health education through the CSPS at the Oper Village. Here, we offer comprehensive training and informational sessions on family planning, childbirth preparation, disease detection, nutrition, and vaccinations. This education is also continued at the Oper Village School, where healthy habits like handwashing and brushing teeth after lunch are integrated into the school routine. Since mid-2014, the health station at Oper Village has served as a primary care facility for the rural area, relieving the district hospital and supporting it through jointly developed preventive programs. Women who previously had to give birth at home now receive medical support during delivery and initial care for their children. Since 2019, we have also been collaborating with the EFFO project at the Robert Koch Institute to train medical staff and provide education on highly infectious diseases such as Ebola and coronavirus.
