2025 was a Year Full of Opportunities: 15 Years of the Opera Village

2025 was a year full of opportunities, challenges, and visible achievements for the Opera Village in Burkina Faso. The Opera Village is a place where cultural projects, education, and healthcare are interwoven and mutually reinforce each other. Solidarity here is not just talked about – it is lived. From the very beginning, our approach has been guided by a clear principle: we work in direct collaboration with the local community, using creative approaches that foster self-determination, and treating art as a tool for societal change.

Our health center remains the only dental facility within a 20-kilometer radius and treated around 150 people per quarter who would otherwise have no access to dental care. Mobile teams accompanied women in remote regions, ensuring they do not give birth alone or without medical assistance, bringing help precisely to the places where it is most needed.

Our school was also a central focus in 2025, offering children a safe space for learning and growth. 150 girls learned to read and write, and many children completed their education instead of dropping out early. Classrooms provided an environment conducive to learning, even in challenging heat. The school garden taught children practical lessons about healthy nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and environmental responsibility, while the fruits and vegetables grown there contributed directly to the school kitchen.

Cultural and creative initiatives enriched the year further. Art and dance workshops strengthened children’s self-confidence and allowed them to explore their talents. The KIFIFE children’s film festival engaged adults in reflection and dialogue, creating spaces for discussion. Feminist podcasts, reading sessions, and workshops gave women a voice and strengthened their participation in society.

Despite these successes, challenges remain. Financial support has declined while costs continue to rise. Much of what was achieved in 2025 would not have been possible without the commitment of our supporters and donors. Every contribution has a direct, visible impact, ensuring that the Opera Village remains a place of opportunities and perspectives for the future. Looking back on 2025, it is clear that change is not a one-time event but requires ongoing engagement. Thanks to the support of so many people, the Opera Village could provide children, women, and families with the opportunity to live with dignity and autonomy for another year. In the years ahead, continued responsibility and engagement will be essential. Every donation and every act of support helps the Opera Village remain a place where solidarity is not just a word, but a lived reality.
